If you’re anything like me, you probably told yourself at some point that you’d “never be able to make a living as a writer.”

Other people might have repeated the same phrase to you, too. My family sure did.

We are taught that — to be successful — one must be an engineer, doctor, lawyer, finance bro, tech wizard, or C-suite executive. And that’s it.

WRONG.

It is extremely possible to have a lucrative writing career.

There are dozens of 6-figure writers who type their way to success each day.

  • The most profitable type of freelance writing is copywriting (a.k.a. sales, direct response, or marketing-based writing).
  • As of 2024, the median salary for copywriters was approx. $76K a year.
  • You can still make 4–6 figures per month with an established blog in 2024.
  • Freelance writers typically set their own rates, meaning revenue is limitless.

But all of that success comes with deep learning, trial and error, networking, branding, and learning from writers who are already killing it in the industry.
